The exhibition “Ancient History of the Liepaja region”, where the period from the Stone Age (8500 – 1500 BC) till the Late Iron Age (800 – 1200 BC) is reflected. Particular exhibits refer to the later period – even till the 17th century.
From this layout a visitor can gain an overall notion concerning the Ancient times, get to know the most significant Liepaja region archeological monuments, as well as their research history, see not only the typical archeological material describing that epoch, but also unique ancient items: objects from the most ancient so far burial in Kurzeme that was opened in Grobina Atkalnu first ancient cemetery in 1988 (2-1 centuries BC), an open-work necklace of the Early Iron Age from Virgas Mount Zivertu graveyard, found in Grobina’s Priediena archeological complex Scandinavian burial stella of the 7th century – the only finding of its kind in Eastern Baltic region, ancient items from Durbes Diru graveyard, amongst which the armour hat of the Kurssian warrior deserves particular attention.
